Archives 2017 (502) June (60) Jennifer Muro Talks About Star Wars: Forces of Destiny; Colin Trevorrow Talks About the Loss of Carrie Fisher and Filming in Ireland.Star Wars 8 release date, trailer, cast, name, and everything you need to know. Fast Facts: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release date: December 1. Director: Rian Johnson. Writers: Rian Johnson. Update: June 2. 3, 2. Leaked Lego minifigs might reveal Snoke's origins. A collection of leaked minifigs have given us our first close look at Supreme Leader Snoke, and it's raised some interesting questions. Firstly, he's wearing classic, Light- side Jedi robes, rather than Sith. Could this relate to why Luke wants the Jedi to end? We've moved past simple good and evil - Snoke could represent the Star Wars equivalent of Lawful Evil - a member of the Jedi Order who's doing everything for the wrong reasons. Another interesting fact is that his figure clearly has eyebrows. Yeah, you read that right. Why does that matter? Because two of the hottest contenders in the 'who the eff is Snoke?' race are Darth Plagueis and Emperor Palpatine, both of whom have smooth, hairless foreheads. I know it sounds weird, but trust me. Eyebrows, people. It's a thing. Much like how Rian Johnson asked JJ Abrams to tweak The Force Awakens' ending, we now know that Colin Trevorrow has also asked Rian Johnson to add a scene to Star Wars: The Last Jedi which will better link the two films. We don't know what it is let, but it's cool to see all three directors working together collaboratively - something that will hopefully lead to a smart, cohesive final trilogy. Star Wars (later retitled Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope) is a 1977 American epic space opera film written and directed by George Lucas. The first installment. Update: June 1. 6, 2. Snoke's Elite Praetorian Guards pictured We now know what Snoke's personal guard will look like, and, much like the everything else in the First Order, they're reminiscent of the original trilogy but with a cleaner, rounder look. Think of it like the new Twitter, but with electrified halberds. This one has taken on an 'artist's impression' element, since the original images have been scoured from the internet, but you can get a sense of what they'll look like over at Making. Star. Wars. net. They're very like of Palpatine's Royal Guard - who, despite doing precisely sod all in Return of the Jedi, were still some of the Empire's coolest troops - and it'd be cool if we actually got to see them do something in The Last Jedi (even if it's only being messed up by Luke in an epic final act). Update: June 6, 2. Will Star Wars 8 be released a day earlier in the UK? Star Wars: The Last Jedi will reportedly be released a day earlier than originally planned in the UK. The sequel was announced to hit cinemas on December 1. Various outlets are now reporting that the UK release date has been set for a day earlier than in the US with Star Wars 8 hitting cinemas in the UK on December 1. Again, this isn't that unusual.. I expect we'll get official word form the studio any day now and fans around the world can start planning their Star Wars marathons in time for The Last Jedi's release. Update: June 2, 2. Mark Hamill disagreed with director Rian Johnson's choices for Luke Skywalker. This is a fascinating, potentially frightening revelation: Mark Hamill and Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson apparently didn't see eye- to- eye about the narrative direction chosen for Luke Skywalker. They eventually came to an agreement, and Hamill, ever the professional, dedicated himself to bringing Johnson's vision to life, but you can't help but speculate. Does Hamill think that Johnson's version of Skywalker is making decisions that are out of character? Or is this a clever way of throwing the Star Wars audience in a speculation frenzy? As if the story of what Luke's been up to wasn't tantalising enough already.. Update: May 2. 6, 2. Vanity Fair images released. Vanity Fair has released a stack of new Star Wars: The Last Jedi photos, and they're basically incredible. I've included them in a gallery below, but hit the link if you want to see them in their uncropped glory. Not only do they reveal details about loads of things we've speculated about below - such as Benicio Del Toro's man in black, and Laura Dern's magnificent hair - but they're worth staring at if only to marvel at the absurd talent of photographer Annie Leibovitz. Original article continues below***The Star Wars: The Last Jedi news is coming thick and fast now, as we approach the final trench run ahead of release later this year. We’ve seen the Star Wars: The Last Jedi teaser trailer; we’ve got a beautiful, enticing poster; and every day, more information arrives that hints at what we could see in the final film. Below you’ll find everything we know about the follow up to The Force Awakens, so check back regularly for the latest news and information about the biggest cinematic event of the year. Star Wars 8 director is indie sensation Rian Johnson. Rian Johnson is writing and directing. Don’t know who he is? He wrote and directed the excellent and utterly unique Brick in 2. He also did brutal time- travel fable Looper in 2. Also, his first short film was called Evil Demon Golf Ball From Hell!!!, which sounds like nothing if not an exasperated casual slur for a Death Star. He’s even directed three episodes of Breaking Bad. Johnson revealed that Luke Skywalker is at the heart of the Star Wars 8 story. Speaking to USA Today, he explained that, “what’s going on with Luke Skywalker?” is the central question surrounding the upcoming movie. He also said that he wanted Star Wars 8 to be, “a blast and to be funny and to be a ride the way The Force Awakens and the original Star Wars movies were.” Less like a bleak reflection of Empire Strikes Back than many were expecting, then, but still exciting. He’s also uncompromising about to delivering his vision. Johnson decided that the scar Kylo Ren got fighting Rey at the end of The Force Awakens looked goofy, so he fixed it. If you thought Kylo Ren looked different, well spotted. Star Wars 8 release date is December 1. At the moment we’ve got a release date for the UK and US of December 1. Czech Republic, Poland, and Russia can apparently catch it a day earlier on December 1. Everybody else will have to wait another agonising day. Premieres for The Force Awakens happened four days before the US cinematic release, so you should be on full spoiler alert for Episode 8 from December 1. Seriously, turn the internet off. It’s a shame they moved the original May 2. Let’s hope we head to Hoth for all the festive feels. The Star Wars 8 trailer is here! Well, the teaser trailer is, at least. We finally got to see it at Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens which reached 1. You. Tube views in 2. Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer hit a not- too- shabby 1. You can watch it below, and don't miss our list of 1. The Last Jedi trailer. Star Wars 8 costumes revealed for Kylo Ren and Rey. We now know what Rey will be wearing in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, thanks to special skins revealed as part of a Star Wars Battlefront 2 pre- order bonus. As you can see, it's very Qui- Gon Jinn. You might scoff and say . Does this hint at a narrative link to everyone's least favourite Jed. I? Probably not, but it's a strong look nonetheless. There's another snippet of information we can glean from the same piece of promotional art. Kylo Ren's outfit has changed slightly - his hooded cloak has been replaced by a flowing black cloak reminiscent of Grandpa Vader. This links to prior speculation that Ren would be wearing the cape in homage to his Dark Side relative. How did it manage to survive being burned at the end of Return of the Jedi? Maybe Vader had spares. But it's very in character for Ren, and would be a smart throwback to the earlier films. Star Wars 8 cast has a few surprise names. Everyone who isn’t dead is coming back, and yes, that does include Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma. Let’s break down all the new characters: We’ve got more details about Benicio Del Toro's mysterious man in black, but you might might want to skip this paragraph if you want to go into the movie spoiler- free. Making. Star. Wars. Del Toro's character is a grimy, suspicious mess. Here's where it gets really cool, though: his ship is apparently completely at odds with the character. While he's an unkempt wreck, his craft is positively luxurious, putting the Millennium Falcon to shame. The suggestion here is that he's part of a jailbreak, and that Finn and Kellie Marie Tran's character are busting him out - which explains his appearance. Either that, or his character is deliberately not who he seems - a classic Star Wars twist we've seen before with Yoda and Obi- wan. We finally know who Kelly Marie Tran will be playing in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. She’s a new hero called Rose, but she’s not an ace pilot or an steely bounty hunter - she's part of the Resistance's maintenance crew. That simplicity is part of her appeal, according to Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson - it’s the encouraging idea that anyone can step up and become a hero. The positively regal Laura Dern is apparently playing someone “very aristocratic”. And, as anyone who’s seen any Star Wars films knows, this is code for . Except that in Laura Dern’s case, her hair is pink. Dern revealed in an interview with Yahoo News that she won't even tell her own children who she's playing. This is partly because she want to save her children the constant, probing questions from their friends. Obviously, I'm going to speculate wildly and assume that the level of secrecy is because she's A Big Deal. Did someone say Rey's mum? Warwick Davis is back, because it wouldn't be Star Wars without him. Episode 7' Before Lucasfilm Sale. It was almost a year ago when George Lucas pulled the rug out from beneath everyone’s feet and sold Lucasfilm to the Walt Disney company, so that the Mouse House could usher in a new era of Star Wars movies, beginning with Episode VII. Shortly after most everyone had accepted that this wasn’t some elaborate hoax, the obvious question(s) were: Who is going to write, direct and star in these films, set in a galaxy far, far away (which take place around 3. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi)? Casting for Episode VII and beyond, as you’re undoubtedly aware, is currently ongoing; though, we do, for certain, know the identity of at least one contender. Moreover, it’s now common knowledge that Oscar- winning screenwriter Michael Arndt (whose scriptwriting resume includes Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3 and Oblivion) is responsible for the Episode VII script, while Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness director J. J. Abrams is jumping ship – literally! However, according to his 2. Jett Lucas, the creator of Star Wars spent more time planning, designing and structuring the third movie trilogy (and more?) than you might’ve thought. Jett Lucas informed Flicks and the City (via Mashable) that his father was “ready to let . In fact, one of the reasons that the prequel Star Wars trilogy has long provoked such impassioned negative reactions (in my opinion) is that the bare- bones plot outline for those films is. However, even though the next wave of Star Wars movies originated with Lucas (maybe even longer ago than we know for certain), his vision will be realized by the more capable hands of longtime Star Wars fans like Arndt and Abrams. Indeed, Jett Lucas made it clear to Flicks and the City that his father isn’t at all the driver on Episode VII. Rather, he’s more like the concerned parent who is sitting in the back, so that he can an eye on things – without being able to grab and take control of the steering wheel himself. To quote: Asked if Lucas was keeping a watchful eye over what happens next with Star Wars, he replied: “Yeah, as any parent watching their kid going to college would. He’s constantly talking to J. J. Obviously J. J. At the same time, he wants to let it go and become its new generation.”(Note: As many reading this are probably well- aware, Abrams is also getting a helping hand from another seasoned veteran in screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back), who is advising on Episode VII and penning one of the spinoff films – much like Simon Kinberg (X- Men: Days of Future Past).)Lawrence Kasdan, George Lucas and Mark Hamill. Lucas’ grown- up son also revealed that his father has already told him about the story plan for Episodes VII- IX – something that even the actors who’ve auditioned for the film are in the dark about. He played coy, but in the process seemed to drop a few hints – most of which confirm what most fans have already speculated (i. I’m not saying that’s what happens, I’m saying that’s what I would like. As such, there looks to be some passing of the torch on both sides of the camera with the latest installment in Lucas’ imaginative space opera/legend. You can watch the full interview with Jett Lucas (where he comments on some of the Episode VII rumors) below: Star Wars: Episode VII is tentatively slated to reach theaters by Summer 2.
